A slight correction . . .

I fear I misspoke about Matt and his Trig grade -- he actually had a "B" on the quarter grade, but it had fallen to an "F" in the interim report. Still glad he managed to bring it up. Sorry he won't be on the A & B honor roll. Ah, well. He is going to college!

Good News From Virginia

Matt has been accepted to Averett University in Danville, Virginia . There was even mention of a scholarship! http://www.averett.edu/index.php

Now, Averett is not Matt's first choice -- that would be the University of Nebraska -- but it is good to know that he has been accepted someplace. This is the first response he has gotten from any of the places to which he has applied, so it is a good start.

More good news, he escaped with a "C" in Trigonometry. Considering he had an "F" at the end of the first quarter, this is really good news. He only has one semester of trig, followed by a semester of "math analysis," whatever that might be.

Not so good news -- my brother Andy is visiting my Dad in the nursing home. His emphysema is getting worse. "The next stage" is how it was put to him. Sigh. Ah, well, he hasn't enjoyed a lot of things for a long while. To top it off, they are moving him around to different rooms. As of last night, he was in a private room. Not a bad thing, that. His phone is not hooked up in his new room yet, though.

Love,
Ruth

Cool site for Nebraskans

I found this site the other day: "Things to Do When Lost in Scottsbluff, Nebraska" I think it is from a Korean site, but is in English. I thought it was cute.

Dear Friends, Relatives, and Prayer Partners,

I got word today that my PET scan was clear. So, we continue with the femara, the monthly check ups and blood tests, and further follow-up as needed.

Thanks for all your support!

Get your mammograms. Do your self-exams.

Adventures on Capitol Hill

Had an interesting evening. My cousin's daughter's brother-in-law was elected to the US congress from Nebraska. He was sworn in today. Paul and I were invited to a reception, but the invitation came kind of sideways. There is a "Nebraska Society" in the national capitol area, and I am on their mailing list. We RSVP'd, and Paul and I went. They had name tags for us and everything! I checked out the website for Adrian Smith, and found that I don't agree with several of his stances, but heck, he is family . . . almost. My cousin's daughter, Laura, was there with her husband and kids. Yes, she is my cousin, too, but I wanted you to be sure to know what the relationship was. I was surprised that Adrian recognized me, remembered that we had been in Africa, and said I looked like my Mom, who has been gone since 2002. Well, heck, he is a politician, after all. Had a nice chat with Laura, too! Also, there was food -- barbecue from somewhere. I had pulled pork on a bun. I was not too happy about the venue -- an office of the NRA. They didn't try to sell me a gun or anything. They also don't advertise themselves on the street. You have to know where you are going to get there. Hmmm, I wonder why? ;-)

Okay, so now I have been to a Capitol Hill party. Check that one off of the resume.
