The world's biggest yarn stash

Paul has gotten me some large plastic bins for my yarn stash. I would like to have three of them: animal, vegetable, and mineral. So far, I have two, and haven't started filling them yet. I have been a bit busy with house guests.

If ever he starts complaining about my yarn acquisition problem, I will point him to the World's Largest Yarn Stash Okay, so the Book of World Records maybe hasn't vetted this claim, but I know of no other contenders.

In the category of positive thinking, we have another entry

I need to seriously start working on my stash. I have some projects in mind, but haven't buckled down.

Keep knitting and crocheting!

Recipes that changed my pantry: Seasoned Salt

No, I am not going to suggest that you run out to the supermarket and buy seasoned salt. I am going to suggest that you make your own! If you have made Nebraska Homestyle Dressing or the breadcrumb coating mix, you should already have on hand the ingredients for this seasoned salt blend. If you haven't, and don't have the ingredients on hand, I suggest you buy the Lowry's Seasoned salt or a cheaper generic version. I don't suggest you run out and buy the ingredients for this recipe just to make seasoned salt! My son loves this stuff, and so do I. A small jar of it lives in my desk drawer at work.

SEASONED SALT

1/2 cup salt
1 tablespoon celery salt -- or celery seed
1 tablespoon garlic salt -- or garlic powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Place all ingredients in blender container. Cover and blend on high speed 20 seconds. Store in tightly covered container.

YIELD: 3/4 cup

SOURCE: Betty Crocker's Cookbook Copyright: 1978

NOTES : I keep this on the table and add it to most of my savory foods. It is a good MSG-free substitute for the commonly available seasoned salts. I almost always opt for the celery seed and garlic powder over the salts. It already has enough salt! Great on popcorn. The last batch I made with cayenne has just enough bite to let you know it is there. I would not add more than 1/2 teaspoon without calling it something different! The cayenne is my own addition. Betty Crocker had nothing to do with it!

Cappies International Theater

Dear Friends, Relatives, and prayer partners,

As far as my health goes, it is fine. I have aches and pains related to age, but no problems with my cancer. I like my new oncologist, though the clinic is not as plush as the previous one. Hopefully, I won't have to spend too much time there in the future! I will be going in once a month to have my mediport flushed, but other than that, will not be seeing the oncologist but once in two or three months. I tell people I am in remission. The doctor says there is "no evidence of disease." I will take either one.

Matt is participating in Cappies International Theater. We have two young people, Matt from Ottowa, and Megan, from Philadelphia, staying with us for a month. The attached flyer shows the times and locations of the various plays associated with this. I think it is just so cool that Matt will be onstage at the Kennedy Center, not just receiving an award, but performing! We don't know what he will be doing exactly, but will be performing. He will also be working himself to death for a month. As far as I can tell, they get no days off!

Dates, locations, and ways to get tickets via PayPal are on the attached flyer. The first perfs are next weekend! I am so surprised. Also associated with this event is the filming of the musical "Senioritis" as a feature-length film. If you are interested in being an extra, please let me know. They will need extras the weekend of August 10, 11, and 12th, mostly on the 11th. There is no money involved, just the fun. They will need a lot of high school students. I will find more information and forward it to those who want it.

Take care!

Get your mammograms. Do your self-exams.
